Love + War profiles Pulitzer Prize–winning conflict photographer Lynsey Addario, tracing her rise within a male-dominated profession and the tension between her frontline work and domestic life as a mother. The design centers on Addario’s photography - allowing her images to drive the emotional rhythm of the film - supported by a restrained system of archival textures, newspaper clippings, and personal photographs that situate her story within history.

The opening credits unfold over the jarring, percussive audio of a live gunfight in Ukraine, as Lynsey moves urgently toward cover. Titles and credits are set in Heroic Condensed, scaled to command the frame, and animated with abrupt, decisive motions. The typographic language sharpens the tension of the scene while mirroring Addario’s fearless, no-nonsense resolve.

The retrospective of female photographers is presented in stark, dark environments that showcase the work without distraction. Typography is customized for each artist, with tailored color accents that complement and elevate the accompanying imagery.

The numerous magazine and newspaper articles featuring Lynsey’s work are presented with their original design intact, preserving authenticity and historical context. Select photographs are given additional scale or emphasis when needed, allowing key moments to register quickly and powerfully.

Photography by and featuring Lynsey is approached with deliberate restraint, allowing the power of the imagery to speak for itself. Most frames sit within dark, unobtrusive environments that eliminate visual noise and give each photograph the space to resonate. At select moments, images are expanded into wider contextual scenes to deepen emotional impact or provide additional narrative clarity.
