Murder in the Bayou is a five-part true crime documentary series based on Ethan Brown’s investigative book. It explores the unsolved murders of eight women—collectively known as the “Jeff Davis 8”—whose bodies were discovered between 2005 and 2009 in and around Jennings, Louisiana. Drawing on a wealth of archival material, including newspapers, letters, court documents, and maps, the series presents an authentic and nuanced portrait of a community plagued by deep-rooted social issues and a justice system that may have failed its most vulnerable members.
The typographic treatments are rooted in authentic, real-world documents, lending a sense of credibility and immediacy to the design. Subtle overlays of texture and handwritten marker annotations are applied intermittently, not as decoration, but to enhance legibility and emphasize key information when contextually appropriate.
