The UFO Complex

This J.J. Abrams produced Showtime series explores the enduring fascination with unidentified flying objects and the possible roles of government, private industry, and the military in obscuring the truth. The brief was a title sequence and visual language as layered as the subject itself. The challenge was capturing a story defined by contradiction: equal parts evidence and obfuscation, wonder and paranoia.

A Layered and Disorienting Design Language

The design weaves cosmic star charts, declassified documents, and military technology into a visual language that is deliberately disorienting. Nothing resolves cleanly; the imagery is mysterious and unsettling by design, reflecting a subject where every answer raises another question.

Design Process: Early Direction

This alternate, unused concept draws inspiration from the visual language of redacted documents and classified intelligence files. Its design reflects themes of secrecy, suppression, and the hidden nature of the truth
