Endurance is a feature documentary exploring survival, resilience, and human limits. This project developed a cohesive visual system spanning the title sequence, informational graphics, typography, maps, and archival treatments, establishing a unified tone across the film. The approach is intentionally restrained, using atmosphere and clarity to support the emotional weight of the story and create a considered entry point into the narrative.

The title sequence interweaves two core themes of the film - survival against the odds and the technical challenges of locating a wreck at extreme depths. Encroaching ice serves as a visual motif throughout, used to frame imagery, heighten tension, and create stark contrasts that echo the film’s central struggles.

Initial film logos experimented with combinations of serif and sans serif typefaces to reflect the dual timelines.

A series of bespoke map renderings were created to reflect the shifting time periods and evolving geography of Shackleton’s journey. They capture both the immensity of Antarctica and the human scale of the expedition, marking pivotal moments - from the Endurance’s entrapment to the harrowing retreat to Elephant Island and the fateful voyage to South Georgia in search of rescue.

Subtle production techniques - including particle effects and camera parallax - bring the archival photography to life, adding dimension and renewed visual interest.
